Shark Party

Caleb is 5! We had his party the Saturday before his birthday and there was some confusion. He thought he turned 5 the day of his party and 6 on his actual birthday. It took a lot of convincing to get him to understand that he was only 5.
First we made shark fins
I had bigger plans for the cake but never actually thought through said plans and didn't start until the night before which all equals poor execution. I forgot my motto which is Keep It Simple. But Caleb loved it, although he did have to add that they weren't very scary looking.
Snacks were cheddar sharks, gummy sharks and fish sticks.

This little boy was kind of scared of his shark cake. HA! Take that Caleb.
Caleb helped me decorate the balloons to look like fish and he picked out some decorations from the dollar store. It was fun to do it together. Quinton thought me blowing up the balloons was the funniest thing ever!

We played musical chairs. The chairs being the boat and they swam around the boat listening to the Jaws soundtrack and when the music stopped, they had to get on the boat before the shark ate them! We also had plans to run around out side with squirt guns but it was a little too cold and rainy.
I learned a few things after this party such as whistles as party favors are a horrible idea and don't give out prizes until kids are on their way out the door. Otherwise the end up all over the place.
Tuesday on Caleb's actual birthday we had a simple dinner at home with just our family. Caleb picked for his birthday dinner macaroni and cheese, pears and edamame. I made Chocolate cupcakes and opened up presents from both Grandmas.

Caleb's little happy smile.

The party turned out so cute! I love the fins and the cake (Twinkies?). You have such clever ideas! Can't wait to see all of you soon.
